The Eradication of Radicals
This Mad Dictator embarked upon an evil plan to eradicate all radicals from the nation. His underlings misunderstood his intent and what were removed were: (1) all radical signs denoting the extraction of mathematical roots, (2) those groups of atoms replaceable by a single atom or capable of remaining unchanged through a series of reactions, and (3) radishes.
This resulted in the immediate disintegration of the society in which all normal activity ground to a halt.
